An "Anthem" is generally defined as a national song of devotion or loyalty.  I think it is mainly set in our minds as "our" National Song in any particular country.  For the Blackfeet, their nation and their religion were the same and one did not exist for them without the other.  In in this painting I have tried to portray a few lodges of Piegan as they pause to pray to the rising Grandfather Sun before starting a very perilous journey.   The Holy Man prays that they be granted wisdom and protection in their travels.
