"Hopi Corn Grinder"

16" x 20" Oil on Linen

A Hopi Maiden grinds corn into a sacred meal using the mano and metate in preparations for a ceremony.  She wears the ancient and traditional "Squash Blossom" hairstyle seen on unmarried girls of the Hopi people.  Yes, the hairstyle did exist for hundreds of years before Princess Leia of Star Wars.

I will always love the warm earthen colors of the Southwestern deserts!
