"Horse Guard"

5" x 7" Oil on Linen

Horses represented not only the wealth of an individual and a people, but the key to their livelihood as well.  Horses were protected and guarded from a variety of things and theft was superior to them all.  Most times young boys were given the task of tending to the horses and guarding them.  Seasoned warriors filled in when the campsite was in a particularly vulnerable situation.
