"The War Shirt"

9" x 12" Oil on Panel

Pride in leadership and accomplishment in war was a part of the glue that kept Native American people together.  War Shirts worn in tribute by the warriors of the tribe represented the military life of the owners.  Here, a young wife proudly sews finishing touches onto a deerskin shirt that will be worn by her warrior husband during his recounting of coups at ceremonies and special dances.  He is a war veteran and his exploits are celebrated and venerated over and over again.

Few people in our society express their gratitude to veterans and love for the flag more than Native Americans.  Their sons and daughters serve in our military with honor and distinction.
